so my girlfriend had this amazing idea to give me a count down sketchbook as a gift when she left toronto. inside the sketchbook were three instructions:

1- draw something everyday
2- remember the words i wrote down on each page
3- bring this to japan and show me what you drew!

unfortunately i never finished. i was so busy with work and getting stuff ready that i only got up to dec. 23rd. also, im not posting all of them cuz some days i draw like poo :P
anyway enough talk. lets get to it!

in case you haven't noticed by now, i love drawin gangsters, i'm pretty sure it goes back to my childhood growin up in a pretty "ghetto" neighborhood. Luckily i didn't fall into the gangs and drugs, but i do love the emotion in the characters. It's all about the struggle.. the hustle. Get rich or die tryin, right?

Tupac is dope. This started out as a quick sketch but i got carried away haha...

I did the sketch in B&W,then added colors on a seperate layer on multiply, then merged both and painted on top to enhance and add color.

i decided to try using pencil again after 2 sketchbooks of just marker and ballpoints.. 4B pencils are so smooth, the only problem is that they smudge like crazy.

pencil is a lot of fun, but i like the challenge of tryin to get it right on the first try, even though i usually fail haha

and yeah thats me with the fade.. im growin a flat top ^_^

Yosemite Sam lipsync animation

For my final project in 3rd semester animation the assignment was to act without the lipsync. We haven't been taught how to lipsync yet, so mouth shapes were not mandatory, but i thought i would give it a try anyway. It took a lot of trial and error to get the lips to change at the right time, but i learned a lot and I'm excited for next semester.

Chip and me

This is my lastest character design assignment. I had to draw 10 poses of a classmate and 10 of myself. It was a lot of fun and surprisignly challenging because i was really indesisive in terms of style. As you can see the design of me is sort of UPA, while Chip's design is a little more realistic in terms of proportion. I had a hard time drawing myself accurately at first but after A LOT of revisions, i draw something i was happy with. I hope you enjoy lookin at it as much as i enjoyed drawing it.

Summer Caricatures

Ill start things off with a sketch of my good friend Juan. He's pretty much a Columbian Jay Leno.

This guy was a tourist from England. He's never had poutine so i figured i would treat him to one.

I asked her what kinda body she wanted. She said "you decide"...

I did this drawing of Gordon, i still like it with only the nose colored though. thats really all you need when it comes to gordo.

this wasnt a real person, but i thought it was a pretty cool drawing.

My friend/co-worker Catherine, sorry i dont have a pic of her but she pretty much looks like that haha.

As you can probabbly tell I worked at Canada's Wonderland this summer as a caricature artist. I cant believe i was getting paid to make fun of people.

The best part is that I learned A LOT about drawing faces and just drawing in general. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their drawing skills.

P.S.: I signed some of the drawings as "Jesus" cuz that's my middle name.

I've been experimenting with ways to do digital pieces with lineart and its pretty tricky. It's really hard to get a nice clean line like you get with a real pencil and paper, but it's getting easier with every new drawing.

UPDATE: I originally had this darker color scheme, but i thought a light color would suit power girl more cuz she's a "good guy" but i still like the darker tone a bit better so i thought i'd share it with you guys. Which one do you prefer?
